At times, damage to the nerve area called pulp is irreversible. You might have had a number of different symptoms such as raging toothache, pain on biting, a swelling, increasing sensitivity or at times nothing at all but a chance discovery on an x-ray.
Contrary to what you may have heard, root canal treatment is a relatively painless procedure.
Once the diagnosis is made, we anaesthetise the tooth well. The infected pulp which contains the tooth’s damaged blood and nerve supply is all cleared effectively. This is further cleaned throughout, shaped and filled to ensure a re-infection doesn’t occur. This is a very technique sensitive procedure and requires skill and time to ensure the root canal system is cleaned as thoroughly as possible. At times multiple appointments may be required to complete the treatment.
Our practice has the latest Nickel Titanium Rotary files and Electric Apex Locator systems to make this treatment more efficient. In certain cases, the tooth may require a specialist to tend to it due to the complexity. We always act in the best interest of our patients, and can arrange an appointment with a dentist more specialised with root canal treatments. Our prices start at £150 depending on complexity, the number of canals and the position of the tooth in the mouth.
In most cases, we recommend a crown or an onlay to prevent the tooth breaking down further. This increases it’s life span.
